Why Microsoft Azure for Agentic AI

For manufacturing and industrial companies already running on Microsoft’s ecosystem—Office 365, Teams, Azure AD, Dynamics—Azure AI Foundry is the fastest path to production AI with the governance controls your IT and compliance teams require.

Azure AI Foundry

Microsoft’s unified platform for building, evaluating, and deploying enterprise AI applications. Supports multi-agent orchestration, RAG, and bring-your-own model with built-in safety and evaluation harnesses.

Existing Identity & Access

Entra ID (Azure AD) means your AI agents respect the same role-based access controls as your other enterprise systems. No new identity provider to manage.

Data Stays in Your Tenant

Azure OpenAI processes your data within your Azure subscription. Your manufacturing data, SOPs, and production records don’t leave your environment.

What We Deliver

Azure AI Foundry Architecture

End-to-end design of your Foundry deployment: project structure, model selection, evaluation harnesses, safety filters, and prompt flow patterns for your specific manufacturing use cases.

Multi-Agent Orchestration

Coordinate specialized agents across planning, production, maintenance, and supply chain using LangGraph on Azure. Each agent has defined tools, data sources, and authority boundaries.

RAG Pipelines

Ground your AI agents in your actual content: SOPs, manuals, maintenance logs, technical specifications. Azure AI Search + document intelligence pipelines that keep knowledge current.

Containerized Deployment

Deploy on Azure Container Apps for serverless scale or AKS for more control. We help you choose the right option based on your latency, cost, and operational requirements.

Enterprise Governance

Entra ID for identity, APIM for API management and throttling, Purview for data governance and lineage, Monitor + Application Insights for observability. Production-grade from day one.

Model Evaluation Harnesses

Define success metrics, run automated evaluations against your domain-specific test cases, and gate deployments on quality thresholds before they reach production users.

Container Apps vs AKS: We Help You Choose

The Container Apps vs AKS decision comes up early in every Azure AI deployment. Here’s our decision framework for manufacturing SMEs:

Azure Container Apps

Choose when: You want serverless scale-to-zero, minimal Kubernetes operational overhead, and straightforward HTTP/event-driven agents. Best for most SME agentic AI workloads—lower cost, faster deployment.

Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS)

Choose when: You need GPU nodes for local model inference, advanced networking policies, or custom operators. More operational overhead but full control for complex, high-volume workloads.

Enterprise Governance Stack

We implement the full governance layer that enterprise and industrial customers require:

🔐 Entra ID

Role-based access for AI agents and API endpoints. Users interact with agents using their existing corporate identity. Human-in-the-loop approval flows respect org-chart authority levels.

🔁 Azure API Management

Centralized API gateway for all AI agent endpoints. Rate limiting, authentication, request/response logging, and policy enforcement without modifying agent code.

📊 Microsoft Purview

Data governance and lineage for AI-generated outputs. Track what data your agents accessed, what they produced, and maintain audit trails for compliance (ISO 9001, SOC 2).

📈 Azure Monitor

End-to-end observability: latency, error rates, cost per agent call, and custom manufacturing KPIs. Alert on anomalies before they impact production workflows.

How We Engage

01

Opportunity Sprint — 2 weeks

Assess your Azure environment, identify the right use case (predictive maintenance, document intelligence, production scheduling), design the Foundry architecture, and deliver a working proof-of-concept on your data.

02

Pilot — 30–45 days

Deploy the multi-agent system into your Azure subscription with real users. Wire governance controls. Measure against your defined success metrics. Validate before scaling.

03

Scale — 60–90 days

Expand to additional workflows, departments, or data sources. Add evaluation harnesses, cost controls, and monitoring. Transition to a repeatable internal rollout model.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do we need an existing Azure subscription?

Yes, you’ll need an Azure subscription. We can help you set up the right resource group structure, cost management, and service quotas. Azure OpenAI requires a separate access request, which we guide you through. Most SMEs can get started for $500–$2,000/month in Azure compute during the pilot phase.

Can we use our own LLM models instead of Azure OpenAI?

Yes. Azure AI Foundry supports bring-your-own model via Azure Machine Learning. You can run open-source models (Llama, Mistral, Phi) on Azure compute within your tenant, or use Azure OpenAI for Microsoft-hosted GPT-4/o series models.

How does this integrate with our existing Dynamics or SAP system?

We build integration layers using Azure API Management and Logic Apps to connect AI agents to your ERP. For Dynamics 365, the Dataverse connector is particularly clean. For SAP, we use standard BAPI/RFC or OData APIs. The agent can read from and write to your business systems with appropriate approval gates.

What compliance standards does this support?

The governance stack (Entra ID + APIM + Purview + Monitor) supports ISO 9001 audit trails, SOC 2 Type II logging requirements, ITAR data residency requirements (all data stays in your Azure tenant/region), and FDA 21 CFR Part 11 electronic records when configured correctly.

How is this different from buying Copilot for Microsoft 365?

Copilot M365 is a productivity tool for document summarization and meeting notes. Our Azure AI Foundry implementations build specialized agents that take autonomous actions in your manufacturing workflows—creating work orders, adjusting parameters, routing quality exceptions—with domain-specific grounding in your technical data and governance controls for production safety.
